Today, Democratic Party President General and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Norbert Mao, and top party leaders discussed crucial concerns concerning the party's upcoming elections. They held a news conference at their offices in Balintuma, Kampala. During a news conference, Nobert Mao, the leader of an opposition party, underlined the need to cleanse party leadership following internal issues since the 2021 elections, such as suspected theft of the DP national register and its transfer to the National Unity Platform.
He also denied the existence of a breakaway DP faction and upheld resolutions passed at Soroti and National Council sessions.
On April 7, a circular would be issued to national leadership hopefuls for around 50 posts, including president and vice president. Issues raised during the process will be considered from May 21 to 30, with final candidate announcements made on May 30. Delegates will be elected on May 30, with a campaign period lasting from May 3-30.
DP president Nobert Mao stated that they will vote for the future party leadership and will end the party's impunity, such as stealing the national register and expelling any opponents lurking in the DP. And fulfilling what was discussed by upper management.
He also pledged to crash anything that would try to stop DP.
He claimed that the venting and screening process on who should be part of the dp will be too tight.
Mr Rutagwera Herbat, the national organizing secretary, discussed who qualifies to participate in the next DP party elections, the election road map, and the dates of preparation, arrangement, and voting.
Even after all has been said, there are still many strong reactions, with the most pressing question being what MAO is doing in government while also leading an opposition group.
